Managed to delete a self-indulgent wah-wah post before posting! go me. going to be AGGRESSIVELY HAPPY because there's nothing wrong and being down is exhausting, I don't wanna be tired anymore.
1.
get__togetherGet together in November! I am going to be doing a little celebratory talk for Stephanie Brown and Renee Montoya, so if you have any ideas for things that HAVE to go in, arcs that have to be read, etc, I want to hear them!
2. I'm going to Auckland for a miniholiday in September! It really is a mini holiday since I'm arriving on Friday afternoon, free friday arvo/evening, probably doing whatever
shihadchick tells me to on Saturday, and then working all Sunday/Monday, but! If you would like to hang out Friday/get brunch (at 10, not 11, though) on Friday, I'm keen if you're keen! If you're working (like, whatever ...) what's good to do in Auckland solo? I like walking and taking public transport and art and music.
3. Flannel sheets are pretty great!
There are so many exclamation marks in this post that it sort of bothers me. it looks like I'm building a thin tissue of lies over my real emotions but I am happy about this stuff! Really! See, there they go again. Oh punctuation, how you betray me at the last. (Not really the last, it just sounds good/dramatic.)

Date: 2011-08-19 09:51 am (UTC)Renee... um. Her stuff in NML with Two-Face is kind of epic, but also pretty skeevy, especially with the retcon of her sexuality taken into account, especially especially since it led into the Half a Life arc in Gotham Central where she was outed. Officer Down is kind of big for her? Her willingness to kill a suspect they couldn't prove did it led into her actions in the whole thing with Corrigan in that War Games and so forth ack-nasty that had her quitting the force because she was walking too many dirty-cop lines.
None of which are celebratory per se BUT it is important to understand who she was before The Question to really be able to go SEE SHE IS SO AWESOME for having pulled herself back out of the spiral she was in. I would have to at least skim those in a talk. 52 is... well, it's 52, so.
I really kind of have no idea what all was going on with the Crime Bible Blood... stuff. *hands* And then there was the Spectre thing with her dead partner coming to kill her for being the leader of the evil cult Order of the Stone and purifying the Spear of Destiny and then the Black Lantern mess with yet another dead friend, and... yeah. Do not even know, man.
She's apparently in the Birds now, though? Which is nice. The Huntress runs the Birds now and got her to join after they worked together a few times.
For me, the big thing about Renee is just how broken-down Gotham's corruption made her, how much it wore at the good, if reckless and angry, cop she'd been until the only thing she thought she had was a bottle. And then she pulled herself back out of that into a detective that Batman calls in for assistance with creepy evil cults.
If I started talking about Steph, I would never shut up ever, so I'm going to hush at this point.

Date: 2011-08-21 10:34 am (UTC)I'm in the middle of an epic re-read of No Man's Land and plan to move on to Robin and then probably Gotham Central so I should pick up a lot of these, but your Question-related pointers are really useful because I didn't read 52, partly on principle and partly because I was having some time away from comics, and I don't know anything about Brightest Day and missed all the Rainbow Lantern So Intense dramarama. Nice to know I haven't missed anything too serious. ;)
I had no idea she'd JOINED the Birds. That's FABULOUS. I read a couple of issues with her & Huntress and they just had such fantastic chemistry - I enjoyed them working together in the Detective back-up features which were collected in Pipeline, but Gail did a frankly awesome job with them.
My feelings on Steph are an ocean, so I'm with you there.
