1. Just randomly, I joined fitocracy, mostly because I hate winter and am totally over it and quite keen on the idea of being warmer sometimes, and exercise is cheaper than heating my house. So if you want an invite I can pretty much invite loads of people, let me know. also it seems like having friends there is more fun? So.

2. Don't worry I'm not going to start posting about exercise or anything, sheeit.

3. On Sunday I'm going to go and see Captain America at 2:30 at Readings (ugh, I know, but I don't think it's screening anywhere else - if it is tell me tell me) and if you want to come too you should leave me a comment!

4. I was up until 3 am last night reading Deadline, which is the sequel to Feed, by Mira Grant, which [personal profile] caramarie gave me for my birthday. I happened to mention to someone on desk at Arty Bees that they should stock it and lo and behold the very next week when I walked in, there it was! Fab. These are the first two books in the Newsflesh trilogy, which is about the world post-zombie apocalypse. Because of the speed at which information needed to travel during the apocalypse, blogging emerged as a serious and important part of the mainstream media, and (adoptive) siblings Georgia and Shaun Mason run a news website with their friend Georgette "Buffy" Messioner. (Yes, they're named after George Romero and Shaun of the Dead. It's a thing.) I won't say much more for fear I spoil them, but they're really terrific - slickly written, funny, bitter, extremely well-paced, and like the best SF they have a lot more to say about our own culture than we really ought to be comfortable with. Recommended - you don't even need a particularly strong stomach, IMO, I am not too wild about zombies and found these very pleasant reading. There's not a lot of ick detail, the horror/thriller elements are much more psychological. Which is way better than Elizabeth sitting across from Charlotte in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies watching brain fluid trickle out of her nose (I was scarred, ugh.)

5. My laptop has stopped playing sound. It's awesome. Not. I can't watch vids or youtube. Please send lipgloss. But on the plus side it means I'm motivated to read a lot more and watch a lot less TV, which is great, except dammit I was saving the S3 season finale of Fringe for a moment when I really needed it and also, DOCTOR WHO IS STARTING AGAIN SOON. 27 AUGUST. I need to do a solid rewatch which I am definitely going to do as soon as I ... get a DVD player which does USB, I guess. (Not going to fix the laptop because it's on its last legs anyway, and in a few months I'll be able to get a new one. In the meantime I guess I can ... watch stuff on the ipod? It'll be fine.)

I've heard from a few people that fitocracy is supposed to be really inspiring and fun, so if you have any invites left I would love to try it out.

For what it's worth, Kat and I got our usb-playing DVD player from Dick Smith for $80, so it's well worth checking them out for a tide-you-over thing, at least? :D?

I did see that too, yeah. And it is just beyond silly that it's so much cheaper to get multiple components, you're so right, oyyy.
