Requesting responses...
May. 6th, 2004 06:12 pmOkay, so two days ago (yes, I'm slack!) I had a very lovely and wonderful long talk with
insane_ophelia , who is a NICE INTELLIGENT THINKING PERSON who also agrees with me on many things (always a plus in conversation). And it was very nice, and we ate a lot of chocolate, and she let me get out Death: the Time of your Life on her card, which I read and enjoyed very much.
But back to the point. In our wide-ranging conversation, I happened to mention how annoying I find NaNoWriMo- because I would really like to do it, but it is in November. this is obviously a really good time for most people, because it's at the beginning of the school and college and university years, so there's little exam or assignment pressure for students, and for everyone else it makes no nevermind really. But for students on this side of the world- the Southern Hemisphere, people in enw Zealand and Australia- this is right at the absolute worst time of the year, exam time. I couldn't face NaNo commitments in November. And she agreed with me: November's great for the nth Hemisphere people, but sucks for us. And we thought that perhaps, since we surely can't be the only people who were annoyed, we should try getting some momentum for a sort of second NaNo- SoNoWriMo (or any better acronym), projected to be in may or july to take advantages of holidays. So... any opinions? This is kinda up in the air, but I hope we're not the only ones. So, if you live in the Southern hemisphere, or even if you don't like November as a NaNo time for whatever reason- would you participate? troubleshooting? Comments? I'd love to take a soudning- hopefully we'll post something similar on various kiwi and aussie communities.
