OMGWTF?

I think I'm actually a little behind the times on this, but I just noticed it, so I'm gonna link to it with an OMGWTF?? anyway. Any fandom friends will prolly have read it anyway. But non-fandom people should go read it too, because apart from anything else it's really interesting.

So. Yeah. [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge said some pretty interesting things, but y'all, don't move to Aussie, come here, because we're cooler. And also we barely have a Secret Service. (Do we? I don't know, and now I really want to. If I threaten the life of Helen, which I would never do because I love her but anyway, if I did, would people come knocking on my door??!!)

Also, in our Seventh Form Assembly tomorrow Seventh Form would traditionally sing a song together, and then force the rest of the school into singing another song. We couldn't pick one song, so we've got a medley. *is so amused* Some of this will onyl be amusing to a rather select seventy girls, but never mind.

(To the tune of the Rainbow Connection. This song always makes me snigger, because it doesn't have primary school connotations. Just the whole rainbow thing makes me LAUGH.)
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Someday we'll find it
the Rainbow Connection
the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
(To the tune of Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Miserables... totally ironic, because no teenagers have social consciences.)
Can you hear Year 13 Sing, singing the songs that we knew then
it is the music of the students who will not be here again.
When the beating of your hear echoes the beating of the drums
there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes....
(To the tune of Lemon Tree)
I wonder how, I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
and all that I can see
and all that I can see
and all that I can see
is just another lemon tree.
(to the tune of "I feel it in my fingers")
I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes (do do do do do, doo do do do do do)
Love is all around me
and so the feeling grows (do do do do do, doo do do do do do)
There's no beginning, there'll be no end
'Cause on Ms Pivac we can depend!
(To the tune of "Mysterious Girl". <33.)
Wo-oh-oh-oh oh-oh-oh
Mysterious girl
I wanna get close to you...
(To the tune of "Faith")
'Cause I gotta have faith faith faith
I gotta have faith a-faith a-faith-ah.
QM I know you're asking us to stay
say please please please don't go away
That we should keep on wearing blue.
But I gotta think twice
so I don't fail my NCEA
And have to come back here to stay-
-although we'll miss you too.
(What About Me, yahdeeyah)
What about me? It isn't fair
I've had enough now I want my share.
Can't you see I wanna live?
But you just take more than you give...
(Pearl Jam, where oh where can my baby be)
Where oh where are we going now?
School is over and I wonder how
we'll stay together when whe're so far apart
us monkey pups will always be together at heart.
(Don't ask about the monky pups. Really. And this is to the tune of "I will always love you. Ahahaha. It sounds hilarious. I love it.)
'Cause I----------eyai will always loooooove you---oo-ooo-ooo
Will always love you-oooo
will always loooooove yoooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuu.

And I haven't seen Meggie at all today. I hope she's not sick. That would totally suck this close to exams... :(

Well, I mean, of course we do, but they're a Sekrit. And New Zealanders are really good at keeping sekri--oh, shit.

(Actually, I have no idea if we do or not.)

Anyway. You love Helen Clark whatwhatwhat?

Well, I don't adore her, she does dumb things sometimes, but generally I approve of her as a Prime Minister.

Mabe its just that our secret service is so good and so secret that we don't know about it. At least Aussie's is overt in its covert activities.

Whoa, thanks for the warning! ;)

I don't THINK we have a secret service, but if you're in Cabinet or a civil servant there'll soon be restrictions on what you can say that means for them there might as well be a secret service.... okay I'm exaggerating, but I think they are enabling (or have just done so) some legislation that means employees of the state can't express their opinions on the government on pain of getting sacked. O_O I don't understand it fully but it sounds pretty dodgy. Only applies to civil servants and the like, though.

As for being sick... my weird throat hardly hurt today at all. Guess the antibiotics are working, dammit.

Sorry, but your wrong. All that's been happening lately about that is dad expressing some comments about the role of public servants (articularly importnat in the lead up to an election year). It is always importnat that public servants behave with politiacl nutrality, and if they use goernment time or money to support a political party or cause then they could lose their jobs, but not otherwise.

Dude, you shouldn't say "Dad," everyone's gonna know who you are now... ;)

Anyway, yeah. I'm still a bit... flip-floppy on this, can't really make up my mind. I mean, I think it's good sense that more important public servants do not express opinions, but I don't think there should be a law against it, I think. (Besides, my mother's a public servent, right? o.O)

It does suck, and I am sick! - I'll be at school tomorrow though, I'm not missing that assembly, even with flu!
- incidentally, that post was incredible - I didn't know stuff like that actually happend! - pretty scary.
(and yes, we do have a secrate sevrvice, more commonly called spooks. They're not that bad though :) )

We've got the "Diplomatic Protection Squad". Same deal really, although they are concerned with all members of parliament and also look after foreign VIPs that come here. I think they're more of a "jump in the way of a bullet" type of security than a spy cameras and secret files type.
I've actually seen them training in a gym at the RNZAF base in Auckland, they are massive guys. Oh and the huggest mean ass looking woman I have ever seen!

Well, we've got the SIS. Who are up to some pretty dodgy things with Ahmed Zaoui and all.

*rereads her last sentence* Er...oops. I'll leave it for the humour value. :P But the SIS are more sorta CIA, except in a totally non-spying-on-other-countries-way.

I think our equivalent of the Secret Service are those dudes who were looking after Don Brash, the Source of All Evil, and Deborah Coddington because Roger Kerr was hitting on her. So really, they can't have very much to do.

Besides, everyone is too scared of our Helen to try assassinating her. ;)

Ahh, we do our fair share of spying actually.

That's the Diplomatic Protection Squad, and they obviously have more to do than the US Secret Service!

Yeah, but that's mostly the electronic listening at that place...can't remember the name. I'm sure the SIS do some spying, but I think they're as much internal as external, and the CIA are supposed to be external. I think.
