So my mother's best friend Anna Campion, who she's known since high school, has flown over from England where she lives with also-Kiwi husband Dave and daughter Eve for Christmas. This is always neat because Anna and Dave are cool and Eve's fun, and my mother is invariably the happiest she ever is, so that's good. It also leads to some neat conversations to overhear.

Marilyn: You know what I wish I was rich enough for? I wish I was rich enough to have someone to come in and clean every day.
Anna: Oh yes, I'm definitely thinking of getting a servant.
M: Well wouldn't it be great?
A: I could fly one over from India.*
M: *sighs dreamily*
A: Or I'd love to design a hose-down house.
Tui: *snorts explosovely*
A: No, you'd be able to leave the room and press buttons and out comes water to clean the house...
T: *laughing*
A: I mean you shouldn't have to worry about duvets and thing. With central heating they're aboslutely outmoded, and as for washing machines they should go down the gurgler...

*still laughing* All this is the most outrageous English/Kiwi accent mix.

*Anna and Dave do stuff in films, and could possibly really afford this. :p
