I feel like such an absentee LJ-er at the moment. I'm barely commenting (but I am reading and I still love you guys, honest). I'm tweeting a lot of boring tweets, for those of you who might want to keep up with me in micro form, but the energy needed to do a LJ post - even a boring blah blah one - seems a little beyond me right now, and I also don't really have anything to talk about.

Except that's not really true, here are some things I've done in the past couple months:

- Got a job. Been in a job for a month.

- Started dating a lovely young woman. (ETA: Says it all:
).

- Read eleventy billion words of Inception fanfic. I have delicioused some of my favourites here, although I'm pretty crap at deliciousing so it's not comprehensive.

- Maybe, possibly, read a few H50 stories. I. YOU GUYS. IDK. I stand Morally Opposed to another freaking buddy cop show getting all the slash time. and I have loved some buddy cop show fandoms in my time!

- only read like three new books this year. TERRIBLE. I feel sick thinking about it. But today I got a bunch of new books out from the library - Kehua! by Fay Weldon, The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi, Double Vision by Tricia Sullivan, Wildseed by Octavia Butler, Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett (got to fit a re-read in there somewhere), and Natural History by Justina Robson. I'm pretty hopeful that I will be energised to read these ones, I'm excited.

I got the Justina Robson mostly because I saw it on the shelf and it's the next book to be discussed at Torque Control. After an extensive discussion of women in SF late last year, Torque Control has been doing a thing where they review and discuss the top ten SF books by women in the last decade. Anyway, I've only gotten a couple chapters in, but it's making me think a lot of things about disability, ablism, bodies, and, you know ... Anne McCaffrey's Ship series. (Also that post-Otherland short story Tad Williams wrote for Legends, "The Happiest Dead Boy in the World". That scene with Orlando's parents? Yeah.) So if anyone has any links for discussion about that I'd really love to hear them.

Anyway. I'm going to try to LJ/DW a bit more because I miss you guys. How are you all?

Random Fanfiction Thought of the Moment: Whenever someone does something really dumb in a fic, like, say, uses an oil-based lubricant with a latex condom not that this is a specific example or anything well okay yeah, I wonder whether the author is ignorant or whether she wants to make her characters seem ignorant.

OH HEY BY THE WAY YOU GUYS. Sign-ups are open for [livejournal.com profile] kiwifandomsfest!! AND EVEN MORE EXCITINGLY SO IS THE PROMPT POST: LOOK LOOK HERE. The best bit is you don't even have to sign up to leave prompts! Actually you don't have to sign up at all if you don't want to! GO DO IT LEAVE PROMPTS because you know you've always wanted that epic Sorry/Laura post-Changeover fic where they're totally grown-ups now. Or that Alex/Maggie fic from the Alex books (wait, no, it's me who wants that). OR Deepwater Black fic! Shortland Street fic! The Van/Munter epic of your heart! Loretta/Hayden porn! OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS SO MANY POSSIBILITIES.

Here are three things I would like from Inception fandom while I'm being demanding:
1. Fic where Ariadne has a secret military past.
2. Fic where Ariadne has a secret military past.
3. SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS, IT WOULD BE THE BEST THING EVER, LOOK HOW AWESOME IT IS WHEN ARTHUR HAS ONE, IT WOULD BE LIKE A MILLION TIMES MORE COOL WITH ARIADNE BECAUSE MORE UNEXPECTED.

I've already gone through four fandoms this year (The Social Network, then I re-read everything ever written in Gordon Korman fandom because Mark/Eduardo REALLY reminds me of Bruno/Boots, Sherlock again and now Inception - which is really the little fandom that could; movie fandoms don't usually have legs like that. Then again, a bunch of rich white guys + Ellen Page + characters of colour who can be easily slotted into fandom's boring I'll-make-them-the-best-friend-or-cool-boss-and-that-way-I-don't-really-have-to-think-about-them boxes, I guess it's about as surprising as Hawai'i Five-0 being (one of?) the biggest Yuletide fandom this year.)

Wow, there was a lot of bitterness in that paragraph! Here are five things I've almost tweeted to Inception fandom recently plus one I actually did tweet.

Expandyou can guess which one I tweeted if you want. Followers need not apply. Maybe I'll write you a drabble if you get it right but um, no guarantees, because I suck. And it would have to be in YW fandom because That's How I Roll. )

Also tonight I made like a squillion BBC Narnia icons. They are pretty crappy because the quality of the source I had was really bad (someone else's DVD rip, which I think probably came from a video previously). Anyway, I'll post them tomorrow when I can be bothered with that HTML, but I did come across this one screenca that I just wanted to talk about briefly. So like, everyone in the world loves Edmund the best, or sometimes Lucy or Jill or Eustace, and I love all of them. Peter, on the other hand: he's kind of a dick (or, to quote his brother, a stuck-up prig.) He bosses his sisters around and is just generally The Patriarchy. But I still love Peter. Like, he just makes me want to clutch my heart. And I came across a screencap tonight which explains it:
