AND ALSO. I am reading commentary on this one thing and wow, I had no idea so many people didn't know that Bob Dylan wrote & recorded All Along the Watchtower before Jimi Hendrix did it. I have no idea why this is annoying me, but it really, really is.

ETA: OH! I was looking at the wiki page and apparently the slide guitar solo [in the Jimi version] between the second and final verses? Done with a CIGARETTE LIGHTER. Holy fucking shit, that man was a genius. So cool.

One more ETA, with feeling: Does anyone out there have "Axis, Bold as Love"? I do not, and it's making me unhappy. Oops, yes I do!

I have a nasty feeling that a lot of people don't know that Hallelujah is a Leonard Cohen job either. I guess it's the flipside of imitation as the sincerest form of flattery.

But the thing about Hallelujah is everyone at least knows it's a cover, like I doubt that many think the Jeff Buckley/Rufus Wainwright/flavour of the month is the original, you know? :-/
