AND ALSO. I am reading commentary on this one thing and wow, I had no idea so many people didn't know that Bob Dylan wrote & recorded All Along the Watchtower before Jimi Hendrix did it. I have no idea why this is annoying me, but it really, really is.

ETA: OH! I was looking at the wiki page and apparently the slide guitar solo [in the Jimi version] between the second and final verses? Done with a CIGARETTE LIGHTER. Holy fucking shit, that man was a genius. So cool.

One more ETA, with feeling: Does anyone out there have "Axis, Bold as Love"? I do not, and it's making me unhappy. Oops, yes I do!

*sigh* Continuing on....

U2 did a fantastic live cover of AATWT back in the day...bloody good. I actually prefer it to the Dylan original to be frank, and that doesn't happen often! ;) I've only ever heard the Hendrix version once.

Knockin' on Heaven's Door is exactly the kind of thing I mean - although, heh, I don't actually know the G&R version all that well, just the Clapton version, heh. :D
