AND ALSO. I am reading commentary on this one thing and wow, I had no idea so many people didn't know that Bob Dylan wrote & recorded All Along the Watchtower before Jimi Hendrix did it. I have no idea why this is annoying me, but it really, really is.

ETA: OH! I was looking at the wiki page and apparently the slide guitar solo [in the Jimi version] between the second and final verses? Done with a CIGARETTE LIGHTER. Holy fucking shit, that man was a genius. So cool.

One more ETA, with feeling: Does anyone out there have "Axis, Bold as Love"? I do not, and it's making me unhappy. Oops, yes I do!

I've never read the liner notes to Rattle & Hum!

Nor did I until tonight, but they're actually obscure. AATWT is not obscure. Also, when I say many people don't know, I mean I observed a lengthy comment discussion about the "Jimi Hendrix Original" before someone stepped up to say, "...uh..." that's what disturbed me, because the population of LJ is such that there were definitely a lot more people reading the conversation than contributing and none of them knew.
