Guys! Food emergency! I have three cans of Guinness in my fridge. I don't like beer (oh, irony) and if I did, I still wouldn't like Guinness. I got it to bake into cupcakes with. I'm leaving town in about a week and a half. What can I cook with beer? Help!

Also: can you duplicate the effect of a slow cooker with a stock pot set real low? If not, why not?

I would say send them to me, but eh. Guinness in cupcakes? How did that work out?

As for crock pot and stock pot, I'm totally pulling this one. I think the only difference would be is that with a stock pot, you'd have to pay attention to the food more. Whereas with a crock pot, all you really have to do is set it and leave it.

Ooh, handy link.

I don't know. They were OK but not as excitingly different and good as I'd hoped. I have better cake recipes, you know? Well, one. And you really only need one good cake recipe.

Well hey. THAT's not a big deal. What's with all these recipes saying MUST HAVE CROCK POT? My interest in buying a crock pot = very small, my interest in stew = very large. I mean, it's not like people didn't make this stuff before we had crock pots, yanno?

Beer bread! Recipe goes:
3 cups of flour
4 teaspoons of baking powder
2 teaspoons of salt
330ml beer
1 tablespoon of honey

Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Mix everything together and then pour into a greased loaf tin. Bake for 45 minutes.

We made this a few times before we got a breadmaker and it's pretty decent bread - probably not something you'd want to make sandwiches out of, but definitely good on the side of casserole or curry. Also, it's dead easy.

Maybe I'll make beer bread and [livejournal.com profile] jessikast's Irish stew - could be a delish combination! Thanks. :D

Oooh, now I want to try the bread and stew combination! Because that bread sounds both delicious and easy.

Irish lamb stew!!

Absolutely delicious, and yummy and delicious - I don't like Guinness either, but I keep some in the pantry just for this recipe. Bonus - it's the kind of food you could make up in bulk, and then freeze for when you come back into town.

I posted the recipe in my journal here.

That sounds DELICIOUS. nom nom nom.

(Mind you, I won't be back in town til next Feb, so I'll have to OD on it over a week, but I think I could survive that.)

I don't know any recipes, so can't help you there, but...I do drink Guinness. I also live not ten minutes' drive away. Coincidence? I think not!

Well, two things:

they've been in the back of the fridge for MONTHS and at some point they were definitely partially frozen, so... they might be gross and/or poisonous (what? shut up.)

I kinda want to cook with them! Esp. now that I have all these recipes.

I'm 80% sure that I ALREADY OFFERED THEM to you MONTHS AGO and you didn't take them off my hands. WHAT'S THAT ABOUT, HUH.
