labellementeuseI've already gone through four fandoms this year (The Social Network, then I re-read everything ever written in Gordon Korman fandom because Mark/Eduardo REALLY reminds me of Bruno/Boots, Sherlock again and now Inception - which is really the little fandom that could; movie fandoms don't usually have legs like that. Then again, a bunch of rich white guys + Ellen Page + characters of colour who can be easily slotted into fandom's boring I'll-make-them-the-best-friend-or-cool-boss-and-that-way-I-don't-really-have-to-think-about-them boxes, I guess it's about as surprising as Hawai'i Five-0 being (one of?) the biggest Yuletide fandom this year.)
Wow, there was a lot of bitterness in that paragraph! Here are five things I've almost tweeted to Inception fandom recently plus one I actually did tweet.
Darling Inception delicious-ers,
1. Darling Inception delicious-ers! You guys are my special secret friends and I'd be nothing without you, but when I delicious Arthur/Eames + long, I don't expect to come up with a bunch of 6,000 word fics. "long" means at least more than one LJ post - which is between 10,000 and 12,000 words, I believe.
2. What is WITH hooker!Arthur? Why does this have so many legs? I know JGL was in that one film one time, but I haven't noticed much that seems to be influenced by 10 Things I Hate About You, and that was the greatest film of the 90s! Also, just because JGL is a Francophile doesn't mean Arthur is (although, OK, I kind of like that.) While I'm at it, does Arthur actually comment on Eames' clothing at ALL during the movie? So bored of that trope.
3. There are more cities in New Zealand than just Auckland. Honest. I actually was quite pleased the first couple of times, and then it was like Auckland was getting namedropped in nearly every fic - I think more often than Sydney, actually - and I was like, um.
4. I could seriously do with some more Yusuf/Ariadne, because it is amazing. Cobb/Ariadne makes me want to scream but you know, you guys should have fun in your own way, I guess.
5. I think it's really cute the way the fandom has kind of structured itself around an anonymous kink meme, and yet it ... I mean it's really just not that kinky. Or even porny, tbqh.
6. I think people who write Eames/Arthur are a) revealing their personal answer to the question "who tops", and b) left over from yaoi fandom. I was kind of pleased when I noticed that Inception was bucking the classic "person who tops most in fic/is The Man comes first in the pairing bracket" trend, because I think that trend is dumb. (Sorry.) Also although Eames totally does top more than Arthur, it's really not too disastrously bad! I wish there was more fic with people switching, though - and that can go for the entirety of media fandom.
Also tonight I made like a squillion BBC Narnia icons. They are pretty crappy because the quality of the source I had was really bad (someone else's DVD rip, which I think probably came from a video previously). Anyway, I'll post them tomorrow when I can be bothered with that HTML, but I did come across this one screenca that I just wanted to talk about briefly. So like, everyone in the world loves Edmund the best, or sometimes Lucy or Jill or Eustace, and I love all of them. Peter, on the other hand: he's kind of a dick (or, to quote his brother, a stuck-up prig.) He bosses his sisters around and is just generally The Patriarchy. But I still love Peter. Like, he just makes me want to clutch my heart. And I came across a screencap tonight which explains it:
I mean, that's it. He's got his arm around his little sister. And he's sincere and he cares and he's a jerkface and he's SO BRITISH and and and. I honestly do think he's magnificent. And, you know, maybe it gets right down to this: he's the oldest of four. I'm the oldest of four. They never listen to us, but we've just got to look out for them. And tell them what to do in a really supercilious way.
